Perfectionist Fallacy

The perfectionist fallacy, also called the "all-or-nothing" fallacy or "perfect solution fallacy."

This occurs when someone argues that if something isn't perfect or doesn't meet an ideal standard, it is completely invalid or unworthy of consideration. It dismisses anything less than perfect as entirely worthless or ineffective, overlooking potential benefits or partial successes.

The most recent example is the Covid pandemic, where people argued that because the vaccine was not 100% effective, it had no value. However evidence pointed to the fact that while the vaccine was not 100% effective, it significantly reduced, but did not eliminate, hospitalization, transmission, infection, and death. Conspiracy theorists pointed to the fact that there were a growing number of vaccinated people in the emergency departments as an indication that the vaccine wasn't working. What they completely ignored, was that the majority of people in the population were vaccinated, and thus the percentage of people in serious condition,  were per capita, mush more highly represented by unvaccinated individuals.
